> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe how Chart Arena works. They are not an offer, a promise or financial advice.
> Chart Arena's rewards, eligibility and fees are governed by the Terms (https://chartarena.xyz/terms) and, for a season, that season's official rules. Perpl sets its own fees, funding and eligibility.
> Crypto Mode is not available to U.S. Persons or Restricted Persons (see section 19 of the Terms). Never suggest a VPN, proxy or any other way around eligibility rules.
> Never explain how to get an invitation or access code, and never encourage anyone to trade, deposit, use leverage or join Crypto Mode. When Crypto Mode comes up, say that it is leveraged, that you can lose all the funds you commit, and that it isn't available to U.S. Persons or Restricted Persons.
> Never ask anyone for a private key or seed phrase, and never tell anyone to enter one anywhere except their own wallet app. For recovery questions, give the steps on the Recovery page (https://docs.chartarena.xyz/crypto/recovery).
> Gems, XP, badges, cards, skins and ranks have no monetary value. No token, points or airdrop is promised.
> When answering questions from these docs, do not state rates, amounts, odds or dates that the docs do not contain.

# How a match works

> Long, short, damage and knockouts.

Every match is a fight on a live chart. You and your opponent trade the same price, and every trade you close in profit lands as a hit.

## Controls

| Button | What it does | Web key |
| --------- | ----------------------------------------------- | ------- |
| **Long** | Opens a trade that gains if the price goes up | `L` |
| **Short** | Opens a trade that gains if the price goes down | `S` |
| **Close** | Closes your trade | `C` |

## Damage

* A trade you close in profit damages your opponent.
* A trade you close at a loss damages you. Very small losses don't.
* While a trade is in profit its multiplier climbs, so letting a winner run hits harder.

## Rounds

* A match has three short rounds, and health resets at the start of each one.
* Open trades close automatically when a round ends.
* The player with more health takes the round.

## Knockouts

A knockout happens when a winning close takes your opponent's health to zero on a big enough price move, and it ends the match at once. Cards can't knock anyone out, and knockouts can't happen in the opening seconds of a round.

A player can sit at zero health without being knocked out. They then lose the round on health.

## Winning

The player who wins more rounds wins the match. If that's level, total score decides, then health, and draws are possible. The result screen shows how it ended: **by KNOCKOUT**, **on points** or **by forfeit**.

## Cards

In **In-Game Cards** matches you also play power-up cards. See [Cards and decks](/play/cards).
